      I love finding out answers to questions like: why are zebra black and white? why is the sky blue? how old is the earth? why are humans so intelligent?

      Finding the answers might mean reading books or searching the internet or most fun of all – having to do some new science because no one else in the world knows the answer either. Making new discoveries like this is what being a science researcher is all about. Sharing these discoveries with others is both good fun and very rewarding.

      cheers

      I like using science to answer wacky questions, like the one I wrote about in my profile about comparing the spread of diseases to the spread of Justin Bieber’s fame (‘Bieber Fever’). Even though that might seem totally silly, I think it’s cool that you can use mathematics and science in this sort of way!

      That I get paid to think about interesting things all day, and that I could make a discovery that will change people’s lives for the better.

      There is nothing more amazing than looking down a microscope at something new you know no-one else has ever seen.

      @mccooey

      I love science because it helps me make sense of the world around me. The natural world but also the human made things. And this is very empowering. When for example I understand how the sunlight can generate electricity I can use this knowledge for making solar panels and powering electrical devices.
