The PSA that I know of stands for Prostate Specific Antigen and it is a chemical that is produced by prostate tumours and secreted into the blood. We don’t know much about what it does, but it is very useful as it helps us to diagnose whether a man is likely or is not likely to have a prostate tumour with a simple blood test, which is easier and safer than other diagnostic methods, like a biopsy where they have to take a tissue sample to send to the lab.
