      Hi!

I started studying flamingos because, when I started my PhD, I got to pick which animal I wanted to research. I thought flamingos would be good for a few reasons.

First, they live in places I wanted to visit on my research (if I’m honest!) – because they’re found in Southern Europe in Spain, France, and Italy…which are nice places to go away on research when its raining in Ireland!

Also, they do some pretty cool things. They’re pink – which not many animals are, so I like that they’re a bit different. Also, I think its cool how they stand on one leg – not many animals do this either (especially not the ones that have 4 legs! hahaha).

So that’s how I began to study them, and I’m happy I did. The samples I have taken from them have been very interesting, and are helping me to find links between wildlife, the enviornments they live in, and diseases that humans get.
